At Fortify, we try to give you as much flexibility as possible to request whatever you need for school. However, there are a few guidelines and rules to keep in mind.

It's important to note that we don’t fully control rules around how much you borrow. Depending on the state you live in, there may be specific state government regulations that impose minimum or maximum loan amounts. These regulations can vary significantly, so please reach out to Fortify if you have questions.

Maximums

The most you can request is generally the total tuition cost of your program. Fortify loans can only be used to cover qualifying educational expenses like tuition, and they’ll be paid directly to your school. They cannot currently be used to cover associated expenses like room and board or supplies, unless these are included in your program’s tuition.

Minimums

The lowest amount you can request from Fortify is generally $501. However, states frequently have higher minimums, so reach out to Fortify if you have any questions. If your school requires a down payment, that might also affect the minimum amount you can request.

Can I request only part of my tuition?

Yes! If you’ve already made partial payments towards your tuition, you can request a loan to cover only your remaining balance. This is great if you’ve saved or received partial funding from other sources, since you’ll accumulate interest on a smaller amount.

State-specific rules

Each state might have unique regulations that affect loan amounts. These rules can set a minimum or maximum loan amount that differs from Fortify's general guidelines. Students should check with their state's regulations to ensure compliance and understand any additional restrictions that may apply.

By understanding these rules, you can make informed decisions about how much tuition to request. Our goal is to give you as much flexibility as we can, so please reach out to us if you have any questions.
