If you’re approved, before you can sign your Fortify loan, you’ll need to verify your identity to prove that you are who you say you are.
Why do I have to do this?
Applying for a loan is a big deal, and unfortunately there’s a lot of fraud out there. In order to make sure you’re really the person requesting credit on your own behalf, we ask you to provide a government ID document and confirm that you’re sitting in front of the screen. It also helps us ensure that the information you provided during your application, (like your legal name, social security number, and date of birth) is accurate, and it helps us to comply with KYC (know-your-customer) financial regulations in the United States.
Verifying your ID
To verify your ID safely and smoothly, we use Stripe, which is a trusted and secure platform.
If you have questions about how Stripe stores and uses this data, please review their privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.
Here's what to expect:
Step 1: Upload your government-issued photo ID
To begin the identity verification, log into your Fortify application at https://apply.fortifyedu.com/application and follow the instructions. You’ll be asked to upload a clear photo of your government-issued identification document. This could be your passport or your driver's license.
You can take a photo using your phone or laptop’s camera, or you can upload a photo you already have. Either way, please make sure that the document is legible and all of the information is clearly visible without obstructions.
Step 2: Enter any additional information
Stripe may ask you for additional information for verification, like the last 4 digits of your social security number.
Step 3: Take a selfie!
In order to make sure that it’s really you, we ask you to take a selfie using your phone or laptop’s camera.
Stripe will check this photo against the ID you uploaded to make sure it’s really you. Please make sure your face is well-lit and clearly visible, as this will help with the verification process.
