How does the down payment work?

Updated yesterday

Sometimes, your school may require that you make a down payment on your tuition through Fortify before you can proceed with financing. Here’s what to expect:

About the down payment

When you apply for financing through Fortify and request your tuition, you’ll be able to clearly see if your school requires you to pay a down payment that’s processed through Fortify before you sign a financing agreement.

If a down payment is required, it will be the very last step in your application process before you sign your financing agreement. You'll only need to make the down payment after you’ve been approved for financing by Fortify, verified your identity, and after your school has confirmed your enrollment and financing details.

How your down payment works

There are a few important things to know:

  • You will pay your down payment directly to your school, not to Fortify. Fortify processes the down payment for your school, but your funds are sent to your school.

  • You will not be charged any fees when you pay your down payment. If you have a $500 down payment, exactly $500 will be deducted from your account, and it will be applied towards your tuition.

  • The financing agreement you have with Fortify after you make your down payment will cover any remaining tuition that you still have to pay, as well as any origination fees or other fees that Fortify may assess.

Making your down payment

To make your down payment, if one is required, start by going to your Fortify application at https://apply.fortifyedu.com/application, where you might see a prompt on screen if your school requires a down payment.

When you click pay, you’ll be redirected to a Stripe page, where you can enter your credit card information and submit your payment. Your information will be processed and stored securely, and Fortify never sees or stores your credit card information.

What if I can’t make my down payment?

Making a down payment is a requirement that may be established by your school. If you’re unsure about whether you can make your down payment, please reach out to your school and see if alternative options are available.

Please note that these options are entirely at the discretion of the school. If a down payment is required, Fortify would need your school’s permission to make any adjustments.

For any specific questions regarding your down payment or loan terms, you can always reach out to Fortify's customer service or to your educational institution's financial aid office for assistance.
